“Tyger! Tyger! Burning bright, in the forests of the night.” The lines from William Blake’s poem, learned by heart at school by Alice Shirley, come to life in her drawing of a majestically gentle tiger. Blending childhood memories with her talent, the British artist, a specialist in the animal world, drew inspiration from a magnificent collection of botanical illustrations at the Natural History Museum in London to adorn this magnificent feline with the multicolored flowers and plants of her Periyar reserve in India. A bouquet of poetry and tenderness.
